Johnnie Marie (Guinn) Carter
November 13, 1925 ~ January 19, 2024
Age 98
Johnnie was a southern girl born in Glenmora, Louisiana, on November 13, 1925. She met and married her dashing airman on New Year’s Eve 1944, in Galveston, Texas. Then moved north with him to make her home in Bellevue. There she learned how to cook, play bridge, fish (reluctantly) and raise eight children. She enjoyed travels to Morrocco, Italy, Alaska, the American West and Canadian wilderness. She was a past president of the Bellevue Opti-Mrs and, at 90 years old, to her delight, was inducted into the Nebraska Navy.
Johnnie was a person of faith and St. Mary’s Church was her cornerstone. She was an active member of the Ladies Guild and captained the Sunday schedule of the Perpetual Adoration Society. She kept her own quiet hour in Church for decades.
Johnnie was a kind lady and accepting of all. She was a blessing to family and friends and passed along her life-long love of books, reading and crosswords to many.
Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents, Eulalie McNicoll and John Guinn, and husband Robert M. Carter SMSgt (Ret).
She is survived by her children: Rae (Lowell Schwab) of Corcoran, MN; Robert (Peggy) of Sarasota, FL; Lynn (Stanley Perkins) of Holts Summit, MO; Patricia (Dr. Joseph Cangelosi) of Arcadia, MO; Rick (Lou Ann) of Lincoln, NE; Carol (Barry Newman) of Plano, TX; Phyllis (Kent Schlinz) of Ocala, FL; and Dr. Jo Carter of Madison, WI, and her brother, Dr. Carrol Guinn (Charlotte) of Lafayette, LA; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
