Mildred Patricia “Pat” Long Burke
January 30, 1960 – October 8, 2025
Age 65
Mildred Patricia “Pat” Long Burke, 65, of Bellevue, Nebraska, passed away on October 8, 2025.
Born on January 30, 1960, Pat’s life was one of profound service and personal resilience. A proud veteran of the US Navy, her primary calling was a long and distinguished career in emergency medical services.
Pat served as both a paramedic and a respected paramedic instructor at a time when prehospital advanced life support was still in its infancy. She helped countless people throughout her life, dedicating herself to mentoring numerous EMS providers. She was a Life Member of Virginia Beach EMS, volunteering with the Davis Corner (1991-1998) and Kempsville (1998-2005) Volunteer Rescue Squads. Her professional service included Portsmouth Fire Rescue & Emergency Services and Medical Transport, LLC. Her passion for education shone through her 24-year tenure as a proctor with Tidewater Community College (1994-2018), leaving an invaluable impact on the Hampton Roads community.
While Pat dedicated her life to helping others, she faced her own difficult personal battles, fighting through cancers and personal demons. She was far from perfect, but despite what she went through, she always tried.
She will also be remembered for her love of flowers and gardening, which she briefly turned into a career as a florist, and for her enjoyment of cooking for her family and friends. Her family will cherish thousands of memories, from her earliest days taking her children on long car trips while listening to Jimmy Buffett and The Indigo Girls, to shared moments watching StarGate SG-1, and a lifetime filled with laughter and tears.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her four children: her sons, Erik, Charlie, and James, and her daughter, Yvonne, and her significant other, Randy Petree.
Memorial service details are not available at this time and will be shared once they are confirmed.
