William Kendel Warnes

Warnes, William Kendel Jun 1, 1918 – Mar 5, 2012 CWO-3 William K. Warnes passed away at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home, Bellevue, NE. He had served in the U.S. Navy from 1936 to 1962. He survived the sinking of the U.S.S. Langley and the U.S.S. Pecos in February, 1941. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen M. Warnes, of fifty-six years. He is survived by his four children, William C. Warnes and his wife, Carole, of Bellevue, Alayna Clark of Easton, MD., Karen Warnes of Papillion and Thomas Warnes, of Omaha. In addition, he had five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mr. Warnes had been an active member of the Bellevue Senior Center and AARP. Memorials may be sent to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, 875 North Randolph Street, Suite 225, Arlington, VA. 22203 or to the First Presbyterian Church, 1220 Bellevue Blvd. South, Bellevue, NE. 68005. MEMORIAL SERVICE: to be held 11am, March 17, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1220 Bellevue Blvd. South, Bellevue, NE 68005.

    This might be an odd request. I work at Awards Unlimited in Lincoln and happened upon an award given to Mr. Kendel in 1962. It is one of those things that tells barometric pressure, temp and humidity. It has a silver plate on the bottom of it with his name and info on it. I don’t know if it would be something the family would want back? I think I got it at a Goodwill store in Omaha, but its pretty cool and might be something someone would want back.
