Preceded in death by his parents Charley and Elsie Underwood; brothers Milton, Max, Dale; sisters Lorna, Gayle and Charlotte.
Survived by his sister Corrinne Johnson; brother-in-law Nolin Hajny; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside Service: Friday, October 27, 10:00 a.m., Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Road, Omaha, NE 68138.
Military Honors: Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard
Memorials will be directed by the family.

Our dear friend Verle, but to us we called him Woody, will forever hold a special place in our hearts. He will be sorely missed by us. We’re so blessed to have so many precious memories of Woody, involving horses, horse shows, dogs, day trips, meeting for breakfast or lunch & always receiving loving hugs from him. RIP Woody & enjoy your heavenly time on horseback & taking motorcycle rides!
We just heard the very sad news. He was a very dear and long time friend.

I spent many a day outside with Verle however we referred to him as woody. Woody and I shared many laughs and had many adventures including trips to the sac museum,, a car show and other crazy adventures in Nebraska. His favorite was my banana pudding and bread pudding and continue to wear hats he had given to me. We had many things in common including our service to our county and very sad to have to see him leave this earth but know he is resting in eternal peace. Please accept my sincere condolences to his family I feel grateful to have had him in my life and consider him a great friend. Rest in peace dear friend.
