SCHMIDT, Thomas G., Sr. TSgt USAF (Ret.) of Bellevue May 11, 1932 March 2, 2014 Preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Schmidt, in Jan. 1952; father, Ralph Schmidt, in Jan. 1973, his brother, William Schmidt, in Mar. 2008. Born in Chicago, IL. Served in the Navy from June 1949 to June 1957, then in the Air Force from June 1957 to June 1974. Attended Bellevue College from Sept. 1975 to June 1983. Entered Civil Service in July 1974, first as a computer operator, then as a Special Security Officer, retiring in June 2002 from the Air Force Weather Agency at Offutt AFB in Bellevue. In retirement he joined the Blinded Veterans Association in Nov. 2006, becoming Vice President in 2007, then President in 2008. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Schmidt. Mary and Tom had five children: Thomas Schmidt, Jr. married to Diana; John Schmidt; Terence Schmidt married to Susan; Laurence Schmidt married to Chrissy, and Kirsten Schmidt McCauley married to Jay; five granddaughters: Karyn Schmidt Constant & her husband Mat; Julie Schmidt & fiancé John Salisbury; Elizabeth McCauley; Victoria Schmidt; Erin McCauley; one great granddaughter, Ashleigh Constant; also, Lori Schmidt; nephews: Robert Schmidt and family; Timothy Schmidt and family; niece, Susan Schmidt Gross and family from the Chicago Area; Michael Schmidt and family from the San Francisco area. Visitation Service: Friday, March 7, 5-7pm with Vigil Service at 7pm at Bellevue Memorial Chapel, Bellevue Funeral Mass: Saturday, March 8, 10:00am from Bellevue Memorial Chapel to St. Mary Catholic Church, Bellevue at 10:30 a.m. Interment: Bellevue Cemetery Military Honors by Offutt AFB Honor Guard Memorials may be given to the Nebraska Region of the Blinded Veterans Association through the family.
