Thomas Edward Barden

Thomas Edward Barden

Thomas Edward Barden, age 62, Omaha, NE, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023.

Tom was born on April 24,1960 to Paul and Carol Barden in Savannah GA. A graduate of Red River High School Class of 1978 in Grand Forks ND, he went on to study electronic engineering at DeVry Institute of Technology earning a BSEE degree. Tom quickly found the typical 9-5 corporate environment was not to his liking and in 1984 he started his own business, Barden Communications Inc. Specializing in satellite communications, Tom installed the first data terminals across the Midwest for Hughes Network Systems, including some of the first satellite data links in Nebraska.

An avid fan of muscle cars and illegal street racing in his youth, Tom was a recognized classics expert and restored a number of 1960’s and 1970’s Ford Mustangs and other performance cars.

Though being a Midwest native, Tom’s love of fishing led to many deep-sea trips in the Gulf of   Mexico and off the coasts of Virginia and North Carolina with his cousins Jay, Chris, and Brian Eckstein.

Tom is preceded in death by his father, Paul A Barden, his best friend and biggest fan; and survived by his mother, Carol A Barden, his greatest supporter.  He is also survived by his brother Robert Barden, sister Colleen Potter, and many close and loving cousins, nieces, and nephews, including a special connection with his Goddaughter and niece, Alyssa, who never failed to make him belly laugh.

A Service of Remembrance will be held for the friends and family of Tom on Thursday, January 19 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bellevue Memorial Funeral Chapel, 2202 Hancock St, Bellevue, with an evening Vigil Service beginning at 6:30 p.m..
