Age  73

Terry H. Greenwell was born on December 14, 1950 to Dixie and Clarice Arline (Davis) Greenwell in Oakland, Nebraska. After 23 years battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, Terry passed away on December 22, 2023.  He was surrounded and comforted by his loved ones.

Terry attended school in Craig, Nebraska.  After graduation, he served in the US Army and completed two tours of duty in the Vietnam War.  Terry was part of the 1st Aviation Assault Helicopter Battalion, serving as an E4 Helicopter Door Gunner, from 1970-1971.  He was honorably discharged in 1972.

During his military service, Terry developed a reaction to Agent Orange, a defoliant used during the war.  Despite this, he continued his advocacy for veterans and was made an Admiral in the Nebraska Navy.  In recognition for his service, Terry was awarded the Silver Rose by Congress in 2003.  Terry was also involved with many veteran organizations.  Terry served as the Commander of the Oakland VFW and the former District Seven Vice Commander.  These positions led him to be one of the founders of the Burt County Vietnam Era Legion Post #37 in 1983.  In 2018, he became the Heartland Alternate President of the Heartland Chapter 11th Airborne Division Association, changing his role to Adjutant in 2020.  Terry was also a life member to VFW Post #10727, Disabled American Veterans and AMVETS.

After his military career, Terry started working as a carpenter before establishing his own construction company near Tekamah, Nebraska.  He later joined the UNMC maintenance team and spent his last years as the Facilities Director of Ehrling Bergquist Hospital.

Terry was an avid hunter and sport shooter who enjoyed spending time outdoors.  He cherished watching deer, foxes and other animals in his backyard.  His dedication to veterans and love for nature defined him as a compassionate and resilient individual.

Terry was preceded in death by parents, Dixie and Clarice Arlene Greenwell, sister Alice Cherry and brother in law James Cherry; sister Joy Henderson; nephews David Cherry and Lanny Hanson.

Survivors include daughter and two sons: Melissa (Chad) Maun of Omaha, NE, Chadrick Shane Greenwell of Oakland, NE, and Brentlee (Krissy) Greenwell of Omaha, NE.  Grandchildren: Kinser, Koen and Keira Maun, KayLee and Jack Greenwell.  Sisters: Sharon Greenwell and Gay (Kirby) Larson; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services for Terry H. Greenwell will be held Friday, January 26th, 1 p.m., at the Bellevue Memorial Chapel.  There will be a private Committal Service held at the Omaha National Cemetery with Military Honors at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude’s hospital, American Legion Post 37 or Fontenelle Forest.

Terry will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all those lives he touched.  His legacy as a devoted veterans supporter and his passion for nature will forever be remembered.  May he rest in peace.
