SHELVA JEAN “SHELLY” BOYD

 Boyd, Shelva Jean “Shelly”

August 9, 1939 – September 16, 2017

Age 78 yrs.

Survived by her husband Morton; son Paul (Nora) Boyd; granddaughters Margot and Eliza.

Shelly spent her life in service of others, as a wife, teacher, mother, mentor, and friend. She shared her love and passion freely asking only for honesty and effort in return. She will be remembered for her work developing science and math programs for girls, her love of travel, and her commitment to her family and friends.

Through nearly 40 years of teaching, she influenced thousands of young minds, served on countless committees and society boards on elementary mathematics and language arts. Shelly continued to be active with professional development even after her retirement in 1998. During her retirement, she traveled the world with friends and family across the US and Europe, and was only recently slowed by Parkinson’s Disease. She cherished being a grandmother and spoiled her granddaughters at every opportunity.

A Memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at 11 am, Monday, September 25th, at Collegiate Presbyterian Church, 159 S Sheldon Ave, Ames, IA 50010
