Romme D. Burch, SMSgt USAF (Ret)

ROMME D. BURCH, 67, entered his eternal home on July 28, 2019.  He was born on January 25, 1952 in Monroe, NC, to Georgia Burch and James Glenn.  Romme was raised by his grandparents, Curtis and Ella Burch in Waxhaw, NC.  He graduated from Western Union High School in 1970 and joined the United States Air Force in 1971. He honorably served his country for 23 years, retiring in 1995 at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.  Romme continued his government service  upon retirement working as a civilian for the Air Weather Service,  Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska; before taking an assignment as Director of Resource Management, Tricare Management Agency, Falls Church, Virginia, and retiring as Director of Resource Management, Tricare Management Agency, in 2014; cumulating 42 years  of government service.

His military assignments  included Lackland AFB, TX, Hanscom Field, MA, Ubon, Thailand, Offutt AFB, NE, twice, Bremerhaven, Germany, McConnell AFB, KS, and  the best assignment of his life – McChord AFB, WA, where he met the “Love of His Life” Glenda Love, who became  his wife in 1974, thus  beginning his “Chain of Love”.

His children, Portia Jinae and Robert Jason, were born in 1979 and 1982, respectively, adding two more links to his chain of love. He was extremely grateful to be a father, and his love for them was immeasurable. Though not counted, he added many more links to his chain because he treated all children he met as his own.

His chain could only be broken, and easily toppled by his intense love for his Savior, Jesus Christ. Romme truly loved the Lord and knew that a place has been prepared for him. His last desire was to hear the words “Well done my good and faithful servant.” And we believe that God has given Romme the desire of his heart.

In addition to his wife and children, Romme is survived by sister Christina Drakeford (Reggie), East Elmhurst, NY, Aunt Ertha McCain, Winston-Salem, NC, and many extended family and friends.

Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2019, followed by the Funeral Service at 11 a.m., both at the Bellevue Memorial Chapel.  Interment will be 1:00 p.m., at the Omaha National Cemetery with Military Honors by the Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard.  Memorials will be directed by the family.

Though I did not know him personally, I know he must have been a kind and loving man because of the children he and his wife raised. God bless you with strength during this difficult time. Jp

    Dear Glenda & family,

    Glenda and family,

    Glenda,

So sorry to hear that Romme had passed. The Wed. evening prayer group at New Site said a prayer for him recently. I still play piano for Wed. evening service. I’ll remember him as a strong deacon and a good person. I will certainly keep you and the family in prayer during this difficult time. May God continue to bless you and keep you strong.

I worked with Romme 2010-2011 at Tricare Management Activity. He was the consummate professional and he let “his light shine” at work. I just learned of Romme’s passing today. I know he will be missed; but, it’s a blessing to know that he’s at home at peace with his Savior. My condolences and prayers to his family that God will give them peace in the middle of this storm.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Romme’s family and friends. It was an extreme pleasure working with him at Tricare Management Activity (2004-2008). Rome was very consistent in his work ethic, but most importantly in his passion and kindness towards everyone around him. May God continue to bless and comfort his legacy.
