Rebecca Ann Aksamit “Becky”

Rebecca Ann Aksamit  “Becky”

Rebecca Ann Aksamit was born June 9, 1943 to Bill & Rose Kucera of Deweese, NE. She grew up on the family farm located south of Deweese, NE.  She attended Pleasant Hill Elementary School, Nelson High School and graduated from the University of Nebraska Lincoln with a Bachelor of Arts and Science Degree with a major in mathematics.

Armed with a teacher’s certificate, she set out to conquer the world!

Her first teaching position was at Friend, NE. From there she moved to Ann Arbor, MI to accept a teaching position. She continued her education by earning a Masters Degree from the College of William and Mary in Virginia.

Becky returned to Nebraska and accepted a teaching position at Bellevue East High School, in Bellevue, NE where she taught until her retirement for health reasons.  When her health improved, she returned to teaching at IWCC for several years.

Becky never married but was surrounded by her loving and friends.  She was always modest, humble and caring.

Becky would often spend her summers at the family farm helping her parents with whatever chores needed to be done.  Her biggest passion was to go out in the fields and pasture with a spade and dig up musk thistle.

She was dearly loved by her many nieces and nephews and seldom missed a birthday, Thanksgiving or Christmas.  Devoted to her mother when Rose moved from the family farm to Beatrice, Becky rarely missed a weekend visiting with her. Together they enjoyed working on patchwork quilts during the summer months.

Becky was a tireless devoted teacher and impacted hundreds of students’ lives with her passion. She was active in numerous educational organizations and received many honors and awards.  She was dedicated to her church and church community.  Her faith showed through by her deeds and actions.

Although Becky suffered from various health issues, she never complained. She always had a friendly and welcoming smile for everyone.

Preceded in death by her parents Bill & Rose Aksamit; brothers Bill and Ron Aksamit; nephew Scott Haddix.

Becky is survived by her brother Steve Aksamit; sister Virginia Haddix; 10 nieces and nephews; 2 great nephews; and special friends Fred & Connie Crow.

I am extending my deepest sympathy to Becky’s family. I knew Becky through our involvement with the BEA, BEARS, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She always brought a smile and a positive attitude. Sincerely, Darlene Allen

I had Miss Aksamit for geometry at Bellevue East back in 1987. She made the class fun and left a good impression on me. My condolences to her family.
