Paula Rae Muth

Paula Rae Muth

March 10, 1930 – June 26, 2022

Paula’s life started in Panama where her father was stationed as a submariner with the US Navy.  She also lived in China and the Philippines before settling in Maryland with her extended family close by.  When she married Bob, she set off once again, this time as an officer’s wife in the US Air Force.  Widowed at 43, Paula moved her family back to Bellevue, where they had been stationed twice before.

Besides being a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Paula willingly shared her talents and treasures for many years to help others.  She joined the Gold Star Wives of America after her husband’s death and held almost every office at the local, regional and national levels.  She worked tirelessly with the Gold Star Wives and the Military Officers’ Association of America Auxiliary to champion benefits for service members and their families.  She attended St. James United Methodist Church and there she helped with the newsletter for many years and ushered at funerals.  Paula volunteered with the Sarpy County Election Commission and spent 12-hour days at the polling places for several years.  She retired from Bellevue Public Schools after 16 years in the office at Mission Middle School.  When she sold her home and moved to Richmont Village, she was the editor of the newsletter and served on their Resident Relations Committee.  She was a Wii Bowling Champion at Richmont and even taught others to play at the Bellevue Senior Center.  Wherever Paula worked, volunteered or lived, she made lifelong friends.

Paula lived a long, full life and was ready and willing to enter eternity with her Lord and Savior.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Lt. Col. Robert Walker Muth (US Air Force), her parents, Mary Viola and Sylvester Theodore Miller (US Navy), and great grandson, Gavin Michael Targy.

Paula is survived by a large family.  Her children:  George (Pam) Muth, Donna (John) Bailey, Nancy (John) Targy and Ed (Colleen) Muth.

Her grandchildren:  Katie (Matt) Augustine, Jon (Tanya) Muth, Chris (Marissa) Muth, Christine (Zach) Goodsell, Kathy (Brad) Struck, Ryan (Dani) Bailey, Stephen (Brittany) Bailey, John (Alysa) Targy, Suzanne (Matt) Yankus, Nick Targy, Dan Targy, Nate (Sarah) Muth, and Bekah (David) Krems.

Her great grandchildren:  Julian, Addison, Gunnar, Rylan, Brecken, Landon, Jersee, Levi, James, Ethan, Ellie, Walter and Cornelia.  Three more babies are due this summer and fall.

Paula was a strong, beautiful force in the lives of so many.  We are thankful to have been her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Thank you for being a part of her life and ours.

Paula was a great lady. I was honored that she asked me to sing at her funeral. I’m so sorry I was unable to do so. Our sincere sympathy to the family.

I met Paula when I became the Office Manager at St. James in 2008. She quickly filled me in and got me caught up on everything I needed to know. Over the next 12 years, I looked forward to seeing Paula at least once a month when she and her team would come process the newsletter. As time passed and Paula wasn’t driving any longer, I’d go to see Paula at Richmont on my lunch break where she always had a story for me, some tidbit of wisdom, and a smile! Such a beautiful smile for a beautiful lady…inside and out. She always updated me on her family too; although I had not met many of you, I knew she adored each of you. My deepest sympathies to you all.
