This group gives those who have experienced a loss the opportunity to receive help and encouragement. Bereavement Support Group (Omaha)
These sessions are for any bereavement. They are 6 weeks long and are offered in the Spring and in the Fall at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 925 S. 84 St., Omaha. These sessions are sponsored through the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice and CHI Health at Home Hospice. There is no fee. Must be pre-registered to attend. **PS
Compassionate Friends (Omaha/Council Bluffs)
Open-ended support group for parents, grandparents, siblings, and family members over 18 grieving the death of a child. 1) 1st Thursday of the month 7:00- 9:00 P.M. at New Cassel Retirement Center, 900 N. 90th St., Omaha. 2) Spanish Support available upon request. 3) Fremont meeting, 2nd Thursday, Lincoln meeting, 3rd Monday. H.E.A.L. (Healing Each other After a Loss) Facilitated by Hillcrest Hospice – a public support group for individuals preparing for or experiencing the loss of a family member or friend. Grievers attend a 10-week educational support group following the writings of Dr. Alan Wolfelt. Suggested donation to cover cost of materials. After attending the 10-week group, grievers are invited to open, ongoing social grief groups held twice a month on one of the Hillcrest Campuses in Bellevue or Papillion. Open Arms (Omaha)
This support group is for families who have experienced the loss of a baby during pregnancy, at birth, or shortly after birth. They meet in February, March, April, June, July, August, October, November, and December for a four-week format on Wednesdays, 7-8:00 P.M. in the Lower Level Library at West Hills Presbyterian Church, 3015 South 82nd Avenue (please use the North entrance). This group comes together to offer support for each other after the loss of a child to suicide. They meet the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 P.M. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 84th and Pacific. Surviving Bereavement (Omaha)
These sessions are for any bereavement. They are 4 week sessions and are offered in January, May, and September on Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 7:30 P.M. at the Immanuel Medical Center Campus, 6901 North 72nd Street, Omaha, NE. It is recommended that you attend no sooner than 4-6 months after the death of your loved one. Grief’s Journey (formerly Ted E. Bear Hollow) (Omaha)
Free grief support services for children, teens and adults who are grieving a death, a serious illness or injury, or immigration challenges. Volunteers Assisting Seniors (VAS) (Omaha)
VAS utilizes the education, skills and knowledge of volunteers, especially retired seniors, to help other seniors obtain needed services and understand their rights and privileges available under the law. This includes Medicare rights and entitlements through the NE SHIIP program. In addition they offer help with homestead exemptions, assist in issues concerning Medicare fraud, and other help in areas. VAS is located at 1941 S. 42nd St., Suite 312, Omaha, NE 68105.
