Olga Christina Campbell
Olga Christina Campbell, age 83, went to be with her Lord on 24 April 2021. Her weakened heart could no longer sustain her as she died peacefully surrounded by her immediate family at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha NE.
Olga was born to parents Flavian Belgrave and Nora Allen on 3 January 1938 in Panama City, Panama. She was an only child, but we believe this gave her a vivid imagination beyond measure. Like many youths at the time, she was enrolled in piano lessons and also sang in the church choir.
She courted our father, Gerardo Campbell, in the mid-50’s – they shared a 6-year romance until they entered into holy matrimony in 1958. Upon transitioning to the United States, it wasn’t long before Olga entered into the work force, which she sustained for over 40 years. Her most satisfying job was her last where she served as a payroll clerk for the US Army – a 20-year stint.
Our mother enjoyed making arts and crafts. She would engage in many of the military base operated arts and craft courses learning how to work with acrylics, lamp design, wax candles, as well as macramé plant holders, hot pads, and assorted macramé items. She indulged in sewing completing many patterned projects and was equally adept at repairs.
Olga heralded her Hispanic heritage. For many years, she was an active member of the Club Borinquen — a social club chartered through Offutt AFB, which brought together Latin people from the Caribbean, Central America and Spain. Some of Olga’s best and most enduring relationships have come from this loving community.
Olga was an avid Bingo player regularly attending games at Sokol Hall in Omaha. She gave her grandchildren fond memories by playing bingo with them as she babysat. She was also a member of a Pokeno Club consisting of women from various Latin American countries.
Olga also liked to volunteer her time. She would work at the Omaha Stephen Center on a monthly basis as a food server. The Stephen Center’s focus is offering assistance to those in need. She would take one of her grandchildren from time to time, which had the effect of instilling the volunteer bug in her oldest grandson, who continued to volunteer his time on his own.
Our fondest memories of Olga/Mom/Abuela were at Christmas time – she never received a gift she didn’t always cherish.
Olga is survived by her two sons Gerardo O. and Gregory A. Campbell (Diane). Olga has three grandsons: Antonio, Nathaniel, and Daniel.
Funeral Service will be held at Bellevue Memorial Funeral Chapel, 2202 Hancock Street at 12 pm on Saturday, 1 May with viewing from 10 am to 12 pm. She will be buried at Bellevue Cemetery following the service.
