Norma Jean Fosdick

Norma Jean was born February 24, 1933, to Bertha and Omer Schaffer in La Crosse, Kansas. Her parents passed away when she was 4 years old, and then she was raised by her paternal grandparents, Conrad and Emma Schaffer. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Liebenthal, Kansas, and Sacred Heart Academy in Wichita, Kansas. Norma met William (Bill) Fosdick at a dance, and they were married January 8, 1955. They welcomed their first daughter, Athena, in April 1957, second daughter, Cynthia, in December 1958, and their only son, William (Butch), in September 1960.
Norma was a homemaker and Bill served in the United States Air Force. They found their forever home in Bellevue, Nebraska, in 1972. There they raised their children, and after Bill’s passing in 1988, Norma continued to raise her two oldest granddaughters. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many, and will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Preceded in death by husband William M. Fosdick, Sr.
Survived by children Athena Dooley (Tom), Cynthia Castonguay (Guy) and William M. “Butch” Fosdick, Jr. (Marcie); grandchildren Trisha, Jaimie (Mike), Melissa, Dylan, Grant & Allison; great-grandchildren Breighton, Ethan & Claire.
Reception of Friends: Friday, Sept. 11th, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., followed by a
Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m., both at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2302 Crawford St., Bellevue.

Norma Jean, my beautiful, sweet friend. I will miss you so much! You were always such a loving motherly presence in my life, and I am so grateful for that. We have had so many meaningful conversations, and a lot of good laughs. Thank you for being such a special human being. I love you, and will miss you always!
To Athena and family…You have my deepest sympathies. One of the big disappointments in having such a stellar parent during life is that it is so devastating when they pass. Do remember the good times when you are able. It will come at some point, but for now, I pray for you to have solace in knowing she has no pain, and is resting in the everlasting arms of the Father. Norma was more like a sister to me instead of a cousin, she will never be forgotten.

Norma Jean was a dear cousin even though we seldom saw her. We talked on the phone occasionally and she was always a cheerful person even with all of the pains she might be having. She will be missed by many. Our love and sympathy to you, her children and grandchildren.
I am the daughter of Marvin Wendler, and granddaughter of Martin and Loretta (Schaffer) Wendler. I found Norma Jean while doing my family genealogy, and she was of immense help, telling of the many times she lived with her aunt Loretta and uncle Martin, and all the adventures she had with my dad Marvin and his brothers. We talked many times since 2007, and I will miss calling her and sharing our stories. My condolences to all the loved ones she left behind. I know she is in a better place. She was a lovely person and now she brightens heaven.
