Douglas E. Miller, Sr.

May 13, 1933 ~ March 10, 2018

Doug was born in Chamberlain, South Dakota to Earl and Elsie Miller.  After living in a few South Dakota cities, the family relocated to Bellevue, Nebraska in 1943.

Doug attended Bellevue schools, excelling in numerous sports and graduating in 1951 from Bellevue High School as valedictorian.  He then attended Creighton University, graduating in 1955 as a pharmacist.

After graduating, he entered the Army, serving with the 10th Mountain Division in Europe.  After returning home, he served in the Air Force Reserves while practicing pharmacy at various Omaha drug stores.

In 1966 Doug purchased Stanley Drug Store in Omaha.  After 10 years he purchased Doug’s Town Tavern in Bellevue.  In 1981 he returned to pharmacy, leaving his wife, Marlene, to continue the bar business, which she sold in 2005.  He retired from HyVee in 2014.

Doug was a lover of all animals and raised a champion boxer.  He also had a love of growing flowers and won the Nebraska & Iowa Gladiola Championship.  He then switched to lilies, and, lastly, roses.

He is survived by wife Marlene; sons Douglas, Jr. of Bellevue, Colby (Yolanda) Miller; grandsons Eduardo and Andrew of Las Vegas; brother David (Mary) Miller of Papillion; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 16th at Noon at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 5912 South 36th Street, Omaha. Reception of friends will be an hour prior to the service.  Entombment will be at St. John’s Mausoleum, 7506 South 36th Street, Bellevue.  Memorials will be directed by the family.

    I just learned of Doug’s passing from my sister Maxine Byers. I liked both Doug and David as friends back home.My deepest sympathy to the family. He will be missed.
