Michelle Ann Brockhaus “Shelly”
Michelle “Shelly” Brockhaus passed away peacefully on March 2nd, 2024 at the age of 54 surrounded by family after battling melanoma cancer the past few years.
Shelly was raised on a farm outside of Mitchell, South Dakota where she learned to have an extreme work ethic that was instilled in her from an early age.
Shelly graduated from Mount Vernon High School in South Dakota in 1987. She then attended and graduated from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD in 1991. Shelly began her career in Bellevue, NE teaching Kindergarten at Central Elementary in 1991.
Central Elementary was also where she met her husband, Ron. They were married in 1993 and were blessed with three children, Trevor, Connor and Chloe. Shelly was an amazing mother and wife! She was always helping, nurturing and looking out for all of us.
Shelly had a passion for teaching Kindergarten and taught in Bellevue Public Schools for 33 years. The past 29 years she called Two Springs Elementary her home, and she enjoyed every minute of teaching, loving and inspiring her “K-Kids.”
Through Shelly’s difficult battle with cancer, she most importantly wanted everyone to know that her faith in Jesus means this is not the end but only the beginning. Shelly’s hope and prayer were for God to use her life and journey so more would come to the saving grace of Jesus Christ and someday see her in Heaven.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Shelly is survived by her husband of 30 years Ron; children Trevor Brockhaus, Connor Brockhaus (Destiny), Chloe Brockhaus; mother Dorothy Deinert; many loving relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by her father Wayne Deinert; brother Shawn Deinert.

Shelly was a beautiful soul. She taught both my children at Two Springs elementary, and they both loved her. My prayers are with her family.
My youngest son was one of Shelly’s K-kids at Two Springs nearly 29 years ago. He always rated her very highly among all the teachers he was exposed to. She planted the seed for his choice to become a teacher himself.
I am a Central Elementary Alum and remember Shelly and Ron well. I remember being sad that she wouldn’t be my teacher because she was always so kind! I had Ron “Mr. Brockhaus” for 5th grade and still to date, he was probably my favorite teacher ever! Ron, I am so very sorry for your loss. If Shelly was someone that I can still remember all these years later, I can only imagine the impact she carried out in her short stay here in earth. May you all find comfort in each other during this difficult time. -Chrissy (Onik)
Mrs. Brockhaus taught both of our children and my niece many years ago at Two Springs Elementary School. All three of them are now in their thirties making their individual contributions to their respective communities. We will forever hold fond memories of their love for learning which was championed by a great teacher, Mrs. Shelly Brockhaus. Our prayers are with the entire Brockhaus family.
Shelly’s beautiful smile would always light up any room she entered. At Two Springs, her K kids and my 5th graders were buddy classes during the 5 years I taught there. Through all the projects we did together, I saw first hand what an amazing teacher she was. May your many memories bring you comfort during this time of sadness.
Due to illness in the family, we were unable to attend the services, but we did watch the simulcast. What a wonderful service and tribute to a life well lived and loved by hundreds, most of whom could not even attend, when I think of all the lives she touched. Prayers for family and friends who will miss her dearly..
