Michael Allan Straka

Michael Allan Straka

Michael Allan Straka was born January 21,1955 in Syracuse, New York to Paul and Ruth Straka.  He married Paula Hamm on December 20,1986.

He retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service. Following his service, he worked for Simplex Grinnel for 14 years. He also enjoyed many years as a volunteer at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home.

Mike is preceded in death by his mother Ruth Straka.

He is survived by his wife Paula; two children Chris Hamm and wife Bobbi Jo of El Dorado Springs, Missouri and Kari Marlow and her husband Robb of Hopkinsville, KY.; his father Paul Straka, two brothers Peter and Paul, and his sister Elaine all of Marietta, New York; sister-in-law Julie and her husband Jeff of Clarinda, Iowa; brother-in-law Roger and wife Laurel of Portland, Oregon; five grandchildren: Brayden Hamm, Zachary Marlow, Anthony (wife Elena) Marlow, Addison Hamm, and Alexandria Hamm; and one great grandson Harrison Marlow.

Mike was always tinkering with something, be it rebuilding a computer, or little tasks around the house.  He would help the neighbors and loved volunteering at the VA Center. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with the grand kids and the great grand baby. In his younger days you would find him with the family on a Saturday or Sunday night at Skateland. Till the end he was a jokester, always ready to throw out a joke or two. He loved and was loved by family and friends and will forever be missed.

To all of the Straka family, Laurel & I would like to express our sorrow at Mike’s passing. Being Mike’s Brother-In-Law, I found him to be one of the most interesting and sometimes difficult of people I have ever met. However, Mike’s actions on the golf course in 1992 saved Paul Baumgarten, my father, from an early death. Dad survived for another 12 years, and I will always be grateful to Mike for the extra time the Baumgarten family received. I am regretful that Laurel and I can’t be at Mike’s Celebration of Life, but we will be streaming the event on TV. I will be wearing my AC/DC t-shirt and drinking some chocolate milk. Rock on, Mike. I won’t forget you. RB
