Mary R. Burke

Mary R. Burke

Mary Ruth Burke, born Mary Ruth Cross, June 9, 1931 in Shugualak, MS. to Lonnie Hoy and Tommie Lee Poe.  She was the youngest of three girls and also had a younger brother; all who have gone on to Glory.

Her family moved to Wichita Kansas where she obtained her education. She advanced her education by attending trade schools and several years of college. Later she worked for Civil Service at Fitzsimons AFB in Denver Colorado as an Administrative Coordinator until she retired.

Mom was married to our loving father George Langston Bobbitt for 14 years. Later she married her recent beloved husband of 50 years, Erwin James Burke, (another loving father to us all) , until his recent flight to glory.  Eight siblings are left supporting each other with much love while our parents are now in sunlit towers of Heaven.  They are walking with Jesus in Heaven’s fairest gardens in the land of quiet joy and endless days.

Mom enjoyed sewing, fishing, decorating, gardening, casinos, Church and travels that took her to many faraway places such as Okinawa, Korea, Philippines, China and had a host of true friends throughout the United States.

She was a very loving person and mother. She was great domestic engineer, loved to entertain, belonged to several social groups.  Our Mom was a classy, cheerful, loving, God-fearing, no-nonsense person, who never forgot GOD was her keeper.  Our Mom loved the Lord’s prayer.

Preceded in death by her husband Erwin J. Burke; parents Thomas and Lonnie Hoy; son Donald L. Bobbitt; sisters Ora D. Goodwin and Clora T. Hyde.

Survived by her children Joyce Wray, Yvonne Thompson, Ronald Burke, Angie Burke, Edward Burke, Erwin Burke, and Wilbert Burke; grandchildren Crystal Wray-Valentine (Kenston Valentine), Cleopatra Ebanks-Thompson (Omar Ebanks), Donald L. Bobbitt Jr., and Londyn Bobbitt; great-grandchildren Ayden Ebanks and Evan Ebanks; and a host of nieces and nephews.
