Mary Louise (Gearhart) Wallin
Mary Lou (Gearhart) Wallin, age 71, of Papillion Nebraska passed away on October 6, 2023 as a result of a fall from her Parkinson’s disease.
Mary Lou was born December 7, 1951 to parents Lillian and Donald Gearhart in Monticello, Iowa. She spent her childhood years on a family farm with a dairy herd and horses. She attended several one room country schools before graduating from Monticello High School in 1970. Mary Lou went on to major in Computer Science at Iowa State University. She was a talented musician, and played clarinet in the University Symphony band and toured with a small folk group with two friends.
During her time at Iowa State she met her husband to be Gene, in the math building and library. After many walks and ice cream dates, they wed in September of 1974. They had two children, Christy and Jessie.
Mary Lou had a long career in computers and data management: from running her own business out of her family home, to working for large hospital and education institutions. These included Lincoln General Hospital, Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital, The University of Nebraska, and University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
While computers were her career, her true passions in life were her faith, friends but most of all her family. She was a dedicated mother and good partner with Gene. In addition to nurturing her two growing girls, she was always willing to help with remodeling projects, camping trips, and sailing adventures.
Mary Lou is predeceased by her parents and her brother Lyle Gearhart. She is survived by her husband Gene Wallin, and her children Christy Havens and Jessie Graham. Grandchildren include: Lila, Jake and Teddy Havens from Christy and Josh Havens; and Brody and Avery Graham from Jessie and Tyler Graham. Mary Lou is also survived by her brother Charles Gearhart.

Rest in peace, Mary Lou. I attended fourth grade through high school with her and recall a lovely piano piece she played in fourth grade.

Lynda Caspers wrote a sympathy message
“Gene and family, So very sorry to hear of Mary Lou’s passing. She was a special person I felt lucky to have had as a friend in high school and during our college years. We spent so many fun times in band playing our clarinets. Wow, she had the gift of music along with so many other talents! May God and your memories of your beautiful wife, mother, and grandma bring you comfort in the days ahead. Lynda Hayen Caspers”
