Marion Frances “Fran” Sewell

Age 96

Fran (Herbermann) Sewell was born February 25, 1923 in NYC.  She attended Manhattanville College of the Sacred Heart and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1944.  Upon joining the WAVES, she attended basic training at Smith College, MA.  As a 1^st lieutenant (jg) in the Navy, she was posted to the ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence) in Washington, DC as a communications operator in the code room.  When WWII ended, she was released from the Navy and signed on as a civilian.  She was quickly posted to Tokyo as a member of the Allied Occupation of Japan.  There she worked in communications at the Dai-Ichi Sei mei building.  At the opening of the Yokota Officers’ Club, she met a B-24 pilot, “Luke” Sewell.  She became Mrs. Sewell and as an Air Force wife moved with her husband and two children all around the U.S. and England.  Col. Sewell retired from the Air Force in 1973 at Offutt Air Force Base.  Fran served as a Red Cross volunteer at various bases around the U.S. and volunteered at the Joslyn Art Museum for more than 25 years.  Fran was a founding member of the La Belle Vue #933 chapter of Questers International.  She was a loving wife, mother, and friend to many.

Preceded in death by husband Virgil R. Sewell.

Survived by her son, Paul and wife, Marty, of Falls Church, VA and daughter, Ann S. Moore of Bellevue, NE.  Also survived by grandsons, Matt Sewell of Bronx, NY and Jon Sewell and wife, Aimee D’Angelo of Houston, TX.

Memorial Mass: Thursday, June 13, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2302 Crawford St., Bellevue.

Inurnment: Arlington National Cemetery, with Military Honors, at a later date.
