Lucille Elliott

Lucille Elliott

March 4, 1922 – February 7, 2023

Age 100

Lucille grew up in the area around Liberty, Missouri, just north of Kansas City. She was the second born of seven children. When Lucille was seven years old the Great Depression hit, making for difficult times during her growing up years. In 1940 Lucille graduated from high school and enrolled in William Jewell College, which was located close by. She also took a job as a teacher in a one room school house not far from Liberty.  Lucille began teaching school, which was to be her occupation for the next 40 years! In 1949 she graduated from William Jewell with a B.A. degree. Because of her involvement in the Baptist Woman’s Missionary Union, Lucille received a scholarship to attend the WMU training school in Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, where she completed a Masters Degree in Religious Education.

Shortly after graduating Lucille was asked to become the Director for the Preschool program at Central Baptist Church in Kansas City, where Morris Elliott served as pastor with his wife Dorothy and their sons, John and Ron. That position didn’t last long, but it did provide a chance for Morris and Lucille to get to know each other. When Morris’ wife died of leukemia, Morris asked Lucille if he could call on her. She consented and after a period of time Morris and Lucille got married in 1955. Not long after their marriage, Morris went to New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary for further studies, and was then appointed as a Home Missionary by the Baptist North American Mission Board and assigned to Miami. Morris carried out different kinds of outreach ministries to the Miami area until he retired in 1985. Lucille also retired from teaching public school that same year, having completed forty years as a teacher. For many years she then worked with the Baptist Woman’s Missionary Union across the state of Florida. In 2006 Morris and Lucille moved from Miami to Bellevue, Nebraska, where they lived out their days near family.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Morris Hayden Elliott; siblings Evelyn Carder, Eugene, Doloris, Frances, and Emma Forman.

She is survived by her sons John Elliott (Thelma) of High Ridge, Missouri; Ron Elliott (Debbie) of Bellevue, Nebraska; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sister Charlotte Gauldin of Des Moines, Iowa.

Visitation will take place Friday, February 17 at 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Bellevue Memorial Chapel.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 18 at 10:00 a.m., First Baptist Church, 16220 US Highway 75, Plattsmouth, Nebraska.

I’ve only known Lucille for about a year, but I loved her as soon as I got to know her. I visited her frequently and was always blessed by her sweet spirit and the stories she shared during our visits. She is up with our Lord now. So thankful for heaven!
