Retired MSgt. Lonnie Moore passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2024. Lonnie was born on February 14, 1959. He spent his years growing up in the Midwest. He graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. In January of 1986, he joined the Air Force. His military career started out at Buckley AFB in Denver, Colorado. From there he was assigned to Osan, Korea, Scott AFB, Illinois, Offutt AFB, Nebraska, SHAPE Headquarters, Mons, Belgium then back to Offutt AFB in Nebraska. Even though he was a computer systems programmer, he spent the majority of his career in weather. During this time he also achieved his Bachelors and Masters Degree. He had 24 years and 7 months in the Air Force when he retired in August of 2010.
Lonnie was a great father and always there for his kids when they needed him. He passed on his love of music, Dungeons and Dragons, Marvel and DC to them. He was a good friend. He will be missed by so many. He will be fondly remembered by those who were privileged to have known him.
Lonnie is survived by his children Alaina Flores (Matthew), Brandon, Caleb and Carly Moore. His grandchildren, Aidyn, Damien, Evelyn, Lucas and Ronin. His former wife and mother of his children, Linda Garcia. His brothers Paul (Darleen) and Rodney (Lisa), sisters Terry Brand (Charles), Jerina Bessett, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Joyce Moore, sister, Angela Moore and nephew Jacob Bessett.
Visitation: Saturday, January 20, 2024, 12:00-1:00 p.m., followed by a
Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m., Bellevue Memorial Funeral Chapel.
Committal Service: Monday, January 22, 2024, 10:00 a.m., Omaha National Cemetery
Memorials suggested to Children’s Hospital of Omaha or the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

It was a privilege and honor to know and work with Lonnie … true professional who cared deeply about his country, co-workers and family. Gone way to soon … prayers go out to the family during this healing time.

Lonnie was passionate about his job and the people he worked with. His voice sometimes sounded like he was going through puberty…. I consider myself lucky to have known him.
