Age 79
Ken died unexpectedly after a life well lived. Born to Ed and Rose in Caroll, IA. He moved to Bellevue as a young boy. He took over his Father’s business, Ed’s Auto Body Shop, and successfully ran it for 50 years. He married Carol Longmore in 1961. During their happy 55-year marriage, they raised 7 above average children. He heroically cared for Carol during her five-year struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. As a huge Husker fan, he was very pleased to see Scott Frost’s first win while surrounded by a rowdy bunch of loved ones. He will always be remembered as a kind and generous man. He was very active with St. Mary’s school and church. He was one of the original members of Perpetual Adoration at St. Mary’s. He loved to climb mountains. He could fix anything without reading the instructions. He loved to collect and refurbish antique gum ball machines and gas pumps.
Proceeded in death by his parents, Rose and Ed, brother, Rev. Floyd Wessling, sisters Carol Stander and Rosemary Lubbers.
He is survived by his sister Merna Allen, and forever remembered by his children Rick (Michelle), Steve, Tim (Patty), Cindy Donahue, Susan Ellis (Jeff), Wendy Clifton (Bryan), William (Elizabeth), 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews as well as kind neighbors and friends.
Visitation 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 28th at Bellevue Memorial Chapel with Vigil Service at 7 p.m.
Memorial Mass 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 29th at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2302 Crawford Street.

A great man who will be greatly missed but not forgotten. His legacy and memories will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. We find great comfort and peace in knowing he is in heaven with his beloved Carol and the other members of his family. We rejoice in knowing that we will all be together one day, and we are thankful for the blessings that we have and share.
So very sorry for your loss. My parents, Bud and Virginia Vestal knew Ken quite well. My mother often told the story of when Ken was a boy. He and a friend came to the house after a snowfall. Ken asked if the 2 of them could shovel the drive for a quarter. My mom told him she would give them 50 cents. Ken looked at his friend and said. “See, I told you. Stick with me and we’ll make a lot of money.”

Kenny and I were classmates in grade school at ST. Mary’s and of course I knew Fr. Floyd and all the family
as well. I am a Redemptorist Priest, Fr. John Gouger, C.Ss.R, .now in Senior Ministry at St. Mary’s Parish
in Whittier, Ca. Kenny came to my 50th Anniversary of Priesthood in Omaha three years ago.

I was fortunate to meet Ken. He was a great neighbor and gentle soul. Always had a smile on his face and kind words to say. He will be missed.
