Joshua C. Burgess

Joshua Christian Burgess

September 9, 2004 – November 21, 2020

Joshua passed away unexpectedly from an unseen illness November 21, 2020. He is survived by his parents, Maria and Jonathan Burgess, his three younger sisters, Anna, Nadya, and Sarah; grandparents Lorna and Darvin Burgess, and Jeffery Chaston; and his many cousins, aunts, and uncles who are heartbroken with his passing. Joshua was a Sophomore at Papillion-La Vista South High school, where he was an honor student. Joshua was an athlete and musician; he played cello, piano, guitar, and some other instruments that he had begun to learn. He was a member of the Intergeneration Orchestra of Omaha and enjoyed music in all genres and generations. He was also a seminary student in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He enjoyed telling jokes and writing music with his sisters, playing football, weightlifting, running, teasing his mom, being in the outdoors with his father, and spending time with his many friends who will miss him greatly.

He was compassionate, funny, intelligent, and strong. If we have learned anything from Joshua’s passing it is that the best among us, the ones with the most promise and potential, with every advantage and happiness in this life, are not invincible to the tragic reaches of depression. Joshua will be missed more than words can describe, and while we have learned something from his death, we can learn much more from the life he lived in his short 16 years. He loved genuinely; he truly saw the people around him. He embraced life and new experiences. He was a faithful disciple of Christ who served diligently in his church and community and honored his parents. His family will miss him greatly and will hold on to the peace that comes from knowing that families are forever and will one day be together again.
