Joanne Claire Sosso

Joanne Claire Sosso

Born August 11, 1929, in Omaha Nebraska and peacefully entered eternal life with the Lord on August 26, 2021 surrounded by the love of her family.

Joanne was a devoted, loving mother who put her Catholic faith and love for her twelve children before all things. We, her children, will be forever grateful for her love, dedication and ever joyful presence in our lives.   Although scattered throughout the world at times, we always knew we were, and still are, in Moms daily prayers. We are grateful for the love, caring, and Catholic faith she so selflessly shared with us. Thank you Mom!

Joanne was a member of the Marianist affiliates of Gross High School for 53 years and the Nebraska Right to Life. She also attended daily mass whenever possible and devoted a weekly hour of perpetual adoration to the Lord for 45+ years.   She was an avid reader, and (although would never admit it) a very talented seamstress. Her thoughtful gifts of homemade quilts, robes, aprons, soft books, soft nativity scenes, pillows, and scarves will forever be treasured.

Joanne is preceded in death by her parents William Patrick and Mary Agnes Duffy; 10 brothers and sisters and their spouses; her loving husband of 61 years Robert G. Sosso; her eldest son Martin Joseph Sosso; and her granddaughter Anne Meri Sosso.

Joanne is survived by her 11 remaining children and their spouses; Martin’s wife Christina, Jerry (Marcia); Clare (Tom); Lawrence (Catherine); Corinne; Gregory (Kelly); Michael (Cristina); Gordon (Lisa); Joseph (Jenny); Paul (Jessica); Stephen (Lisa); Roberta (Matthew); a multitude of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; sisters in law Pauline Bauer and Jan Duffy.

May Joanne and her husband, Robert, enjoy their Eternal Reward for lives of love and service to others. Their support of the Teaches at Assumption School was deeply appreciated and their friendship over the years was a gift to me and several other Notre Dame Sisters. My sympathy to their children and grandchildren, especially my two former students, Stephen and Roberta!

    Dear Family of Joanna,
I offer prayers and sympathy at the death of your beloved Joanne. May God be most gracious now with his full peace, joy, and happiness to Joanne in Heaven! May Jesus and Mary bring ALL of you comfort, strength, and renewed Hope in this time of loss and death.
I was so grateful to have known Joanne and beloved husband Robert for many years within our Marianist Affiliates. They were always so faithful in their commitment/Consecration as Lay Marianists. Jesus and Mother Mary bless them for all eternity.
with much love, prayers, in Peace,
    Fr. Al

Bob and Joanne were best friends to our parents Dan and Mary Hibberd not sure how they met but they were at my parents wedding. Both were very loving and caring people. My parents are gone my brother’s and sisters will never forget all they did for our family and others. Hopefully they going to meet again in heaven. Kids you were so lucky for your parents love and support I know you’ll miss your mom so much but she’s been such a role model

Joanne was such a wonderful, generous person. She and Bob were friends of my parents, George and Blanche Buglewicz. Bob and Joanne are now together. May God grant their family comfort! RIP Joanne.
