Joan Dorothea Kean

Joan Dorothea Kean, of Bellevue, passed away at home on May 12th, at the age of 86.

She was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on December 20th, 1934, to Joseph and Dorothea (Kurtz) Sobaski.  After attending school in Jefferson County Iowa, she went to Ottumwa Heights Academy. In 1957, she married her husband, Thomas. She worked for a number of years as a Radiology Technician and after having children, stayed home to care for her family.  In more recent years, she supported her husband in his real estate career.  She was a devoted wife who loved her faith and family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities.

Joan is survived by her daughter Cathy Hula (husband Paul and children Brian, Jenny (Anson) Dsouza, Johnny, and Ann), sons Terry and Brian (wife Chris and children Mike, Patrick (Angel) Kean, Mary, Steve, Bridget, and Sean), brother Henry Sobaski (wife Bev), sister Mary Terese Horras, and two great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Thomas, sister Josita Witte, and brothers Leo and Bernard Sobaski.

Visitation following CDC guidelines: Sunday May 16th, from 5-7 p.m., with Vigil Service at 7 p.m. at the Bellevue Memorial Chapel.

Funeral Mass following CDC guidelines: Monday, May 17, 10:00 a.m., St. Peters Catholic Church, 709 S. 28th Street, Omaha.

Interment:  Omaha National Cemetery, date to be determined.

For memorials, the family requests that Masses be offered in memory of Joan.

    So sorry for your loss Cathy. No matter how prepared we think we are, it is still a shock You were a good and faithful daughter. She is home with your dad now. ❤️

    My sympathy and prayers to you on the loss of your dear mom. I always enjoyed visiting with her when I would come to your home for music lessons with your children. God bless you all and may she rest in peace and be happy in heaven.
