Jimmy Dean Love LtCol USAF (Ret)

August 14, 1936 – July 28, 2024

Age 87

Jimmy Dean Love was born on August 14, 1936 in Miller, SD to Clifford and Vera (Scott) Love.  His brother, Robert, was 6 years old at the time.  They were a poor family but worked hard, which taught the Love boys work ethic at a very young age.

Jimmy graduated from Rapid City High School in 1954 where he went on to work full time at a grocery store and received his bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering physics in 1960 from South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD.  He was commissioned there through the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps program.

In 1963, Jimmy met the love of his life, Ulla, in Plattsburgh, NY.  After dating for only one week, he proposed to her and one month later they were married.

In 1965, Jimmy and Ulla’s first child, Jack, was born.  On January 8, 1970, just days before their second child, Daniel, was born, Capt. Jimmy D. Love completed his 100th Combat Mission.

Jimmy would eventually be promoted to Major.  He flew many planes from B-47, T-33, T-39, and many more.  His favorite plane to fly was the KC-135.

Jimmy was promoted to Lt. Col shortly after his and Ulla’s third child, Theresa, was born.  Jimmy ran the 55th Command Post at Offutt AFB and in 1984 he was provided with the opportunity to be promoted to Colonel.  Jimmy did not want to move his family to Alaska, so he decided to retire June 30, 1985.  In 1986, Jimmy was honored to swear in his son Jack to the United States Air Force.

After retiring from the Air Force Jimmy worked for EOS Technologies for 5 years.  He then went on to begin his own computer engineering company with two of his friends. They called it Advanced American Technologies and together they continued this business for 8 years.

In 2000, Jimmy and Ulla moved to Colorado Springs, CO where Jimmy worked at USAA. After just 1 year, they decided to move back to Bellevue, NE where Jimmy would finally retire from work altogether.

Jimmy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He loved to golf, read, and work out in the yard.  He loved to travel, especially to Germany with his wife and family -he loved to drive fast on the Audobon.  Jimmy was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  He treated everyone with respect and kindness.  He was incredibly smart and funny and truly enjoyed banter.  Jimmy was 100% a family man and would bend over backwards for his family.  He adored his children and his grandchildren with all of his heart.  But most of all, he loved and cherished his wife of 60 years, his sweetheart.

Preceded in death by his parents Clifford and Vera Love; brother Robert Love.

Survived by his wife of 60 years Ulla; children Jack Love (Janet); Daniel Love, Theresa Love-Hug (Joe); grandchildren Brendan Love, Brody Love (Cecelia), Aubrey Hug, Joey Hug, Ayla Love, Adelyn Hug; nephews Michael Love and Jim Love (Judy); niece Deb Voss (Brian); many grand nieces and nephews.
