Woods, Jerome Michael “Jerry” was born in Bottineau, North Dakota on January 2, 1938, the 8th child of 9 born to Monte and Anna Woods. He graduated from North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota in 1960 and began his 40-year career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on June 6, 1960 at the Atlas Missile Construction site in Ellis, NE. He also worked at the Oahe Dam, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), and various MilCon projects in the vicinity of Rapid City, South Dakota. In 1965 he moved to the Japan Area Office where he served as a Project engineer, then transferred to Burlington, Iowa where he served as a Project Engineer at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. In 1970 he accepted a six-month assignment to Frankfurt, Germany and then transferred to Omaha, NE where he held dual positions as Assistant Area Engineer and Chief of Construction Branch for the Florence Area Office, later serving as its Area Engineer. In 1977, this office was moved to Offutt Air Force Base and renamed the Fort Crook Area Office. With the exception of a four-year assignment as the Acting Chief for Construction Division’s Quality Assurance Branch, he served as the Fort Crook Area Engineer for the remaining 28 years of his career. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Monte and Anna Woods; brothers, Bill and Carl Woods; a sister, Betty Ann Woods; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Woods, Shirley Woods, Audrey Woods and Elaine Edmunds; and brother-in-law, Ron Friestad. He is survived by his wife, Judy (Friestad) Woods; three sons, Brian (Jacquie), Monte, and Joel (Amy) Woods; and five grandchildren, Colin, Anna, Madeline, Ava and Jack Woods; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom Woods, Dolores Woods, Mark and Lavonne Woods, Pat Woods, Jack and Patti Woods, David Woods, Dennis and Helen Friestad, Soren and Terry Friestad, and Doug and Sheila Friestad; and many nieces and nephews, all who loved him dearly. VISITATION will take place from 5-7pm on Tuesday, July 7, at Bellevue Memorial Chapel. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held on Wednesday,July 8, 10:30am at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 104 Galvin Road North, Bellevue, Nebraska, with inurnment following in the Church’s Memorial Garden. The family requests no flowers. Memorials should be made out to the family and will be used in the fight against Parkinson’s Disease.
