Gerda “Geri” Dora Hurley
of Bellevue, Nebraska
Age 96
Gerda had a long, rich, and happy life, and died peacefully at age 96 at the Josie Harper Hospice House surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on April 14, 1927 to Max and Freda Elsa (Sobeck) Walter in the hamlet of Steinkirchen (today, Koscielna Weis, Poland), in Germany near the Polish border, and resided with her parents in the nearby town of Rauscha.
She met Bernard James Hurley in Nuremberg, Germany, in 1947, to which her family had fled in advance of the Soviet Army in early 1945 when she was 17. They were married in 1948 in Hersbruck, Germany, and would live there, in France, England, Massachusetts, Louisiana, and for many years in Bellevue, Nebraska, where she worked for the Bellevue Public Schools and raised her own family.
Preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, and son Patrick Bernard Hurley.
Survived by her daughter Linda (William) Morgan; daughter-in-law Mary Hoffmann Hurley; and grandchildren Brian P. Hurley and Kathleen M. Hurley.
Visitation: Thursday, July 20, 5:00 ~ 7:00 p.m., Bellevue Memorial Funeral Chapel.
Graveside Service: Friday, July 21, 11:00 a.m., Bellevue Cemetery

Such a sweet, caring soul, she will be greatly missed.
The Hurleys were our neighbors in France, and I remember that Mrs Hurley was the kindest lady. I am so glad that she enjoyed a long and happy life. You have my deepest sympathies and condolences.
