Erica Caplinger, age 38, was born at Offutt Air Force Base Hospital on June 28, 1984. She attended Bellevue Public Schools, graduating from Bellevue West High School in 2002. She worked at several retail jobs over the years, but often found it difficult due to her illness.
Erica was a talented musician who enjoyed playing trumpet in the Bellevue West Marching band, the Omaha Youth Symphony and in a Brass Quartet.
She was a lover of nature and animals and enjoyed traveling, especially the Black Hills and to The Chicago Star Wars Celebration. Erica was a Star Wars enthusiast and a member of the non-profit Ne’tra Vhipir Clan. She was also a Subaru Ambassador for several years.
Strong, determined and resilient, she battled Type I Diabetes from the age of six. In the end her body could not endure what her spirit could. She will be so tremendously missed.
Preceded in death by her maternal grandparents Alice and Milton Ferdig and by paternal grandparents Joyce and Allen Caplinger.
Survived by parents Harold Caplinger, Lt. Col, USAF (Ret) and Rita Caplinger; brother David Caplinger and wife Jennie, and their children; and the love of her life, Eric Hargett.
Visitation: Tuesday, April 25, 5:00 ~ 7:00 p.m., Bellevue Memorial Funeral Chapel.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, April 26, 11:00 a.m., Bellevue Memorial Funeral Chapel.
