Eileen Gates Chandler

Chandler, Eileen Gates Nov 5, 1921 – Dec 23, 2013 Eileen Chandler was the third of 7 children born to Harold and Lora Gates, and spent her early years 2 miles from the base, then called Ft. Crook, NE. She spent considerable time attending the Church founded by her ancestor, Samantha Gates. Shortly before her passing, Eileen attended the Celebration of the 120th anniversary of that Anderson Grove Presbyterian Church. After High School, Eileen moved to California and started a family. She returned for a High School reunion and renewed a friendship with classmate, Lawrence Chandler. That led to Eileen leaving California after 46 years to marry her beloved Larry. They spent the next 17 years together, traveling and being involved in family and community life until Larry’s death 10 years ago. Without her dear Larry by her side, Eileen continued her very active life involved in the Order of Eastern Star (Past Matron of Alpha Chapter OES #325), Daughters of the Nile, PEO-Chapter IT; AOKIYA Women’s Club, and numerous other clubs and organizations such as The Purple Princesses and the Auxiliary of Midlands Hospital, where she was a dedicated volunteer for 27 years. Eileen is survived by her daughter, Rosalee Carlson (John Sr.) of Monrovia, CA; grandchildren, John Wayne Carlson Jr. (Karen), and Susan Curtin; sister, Ida Enquist; great grandchildren, Meghan Curtin, Aaron Curtin, Andrew Curtin, and Marlowe Carlson; and many nieces, nephews, step-children, and familes. VISITATION on Monday, December 30, 4:30-7pm at Bellevue Memorial Chapel, Bellevue. MEMORIAL SERVICE on Tuesday, December 31, at 11am at First Presbyterian Church, Bellevue. In lieu of flowers, memorials to First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue.
