DAVID L. POUTRE

Poutre, David L. “Dave”

   March 15, 1953 ~ May 26, 2018

David ‘Dave’ Poutre, age 65 years, died in Bellevue, Nebraska on May 26, 2018 surrounded by his family.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Poutre and Rita Baker.  He is survived by his wife, Bette (Smith) Poutre; children, Allison Hampton (Ryan) and Chris Poutre (Maia); grandsons, Cole, Easton, Logan and Ben.  Dave was born and raised in Rhode Island.  He obtained his BS in Mathematics from the University of Rhode Island (’78) and MS in Mathematics from Creighton University (’92).

Dave was a Senior Principle Engineer with the MITRE corporation for 37 years, joining MITRE in 1981 and supporting Strategic Air Command (SAC) and U.S. Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) since the late 1980s.  Dave was the leader of the MITRE-Omaha office for the past 20 years, serving as both Omaha Site Leader and USSTRATCOM Project Leader.  He built up the site from 5 up to the 30-person staff it is today.  He played a critical role in advancing the capabilities of SAC/STRATCOM. He was a key contributor and leader to the SAC Digital Information Network (SACDIN) and Strategic War Planning System (SWPS) modernization, both of which are cornerstones to USSTRATCOM’s mission today.  He led the USSTRATCOM Engineering Working Group, was a plank holder of the Global Innovation and Strategy Center (GISC).  Dave authored the Air Force NC2/NC3 Strategic Vision, which is foundational for the nation’s future nuclear mission.  Dave was a national treasure in the nuclear discipline.  His fervent belief in the mission and his commitment to excellence are positively reflected in the systems and the people that are the backbone of USSTRATCOM today.  He exemplified and enforced the highest standards and was a valued mentor and friend.  Dave will be missed, but his legacy remains and inspires those left behind.

You know how very sorry I am Bette. I will try to be at mass on Friday but if my legs don’t cooperate, know I will be praying for you and the rest of the family.

Sorry for your loss. I worked for Dave and he was without a doubt the best technical leader that I had worked with at my work. One of the smartest people that I have known and extremely helpful land supportive. I will miss Dave and the chance to work with him again.

Bette and family, very sorry to hear about Dave’s passing. He was a good friend and co-worker. Always kept on focus and came up with great ideas and solutions. Fortunately we have many fond memories of him. We were quite a fun group among you, Daums, Wright’s, and us. All our sympathy, Kim
    and Spurge and family.

I only worked with Dave for a brief while and mostly on business trips out to STRATCOM. Dave was a brilliant and great guy. He’ll be missed.

Bette and Poutre family, We are so sorry for your loss. Lisa (Costa) and I worked with Dave for many years and while he was a great engineer, he was, more importantly, a genuine, caring person and it was always a pleasure to engage with him. We will miss him.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I worked with Dave for 10 years and always considered him a friend, advisor, and confidant. He was a great guy; taken too soon.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Poutre’s Family and Friends. Dave was an amazing person, leader, father, grandfather, and husband. Working for him at MITRE was one of the best positons I have had. He expected great things from everyone and he gave 110% all the time. He will be missed by many.
