Darrell E. Hansen, TSgt USAF (Ret)

Darrell Eugene Hansen, TSgt USAF (Ret) age 84 of Bellevue, Nebraska passed away, January 24, 2023 with his family by his side. He was born on May 9, 1938, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Darrell was an only child adopted by parents, Eugene and Adelia (Onasch) Hansen on November 23, 1940. He was raised in Waubaun, Minnesota during his early childhood, and then the family moved to Riverside California.  After graduating from high school in 1956 he enlisted in the United States Army before enlisting with the USAF and serving 22 years.

Darrell married Patricia Elizabeth Hansen on July 15, 1961 in a little country church in Beaulieu, Minnesota. They were married and shared a happy loving marriage for 57 years. Darrell and Patricia raised three children Coleen, Cindy, and Mark.  During his 22 years of service to the military, home was many Air Force bases, including Goose Bay Labrador, California, Hawaii, Thule Greenland, South Dakota, Arkansas, and Thailand. In 1974 Darrell’s final military assignment was Offutt Air Force Base and Bellevue, Nebraska became home. Following his military career, Darrell was employed by the United States Postal Service, and retired after 30 years of service.

Darrell cherished his family and friends and was an integral role in the lives of those close to him. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Saint Mary’s Catholic Church. Darrell loved everything western.  He enjoyed the history of the old West, reading westerns of many famous authors, such as Louis l’Amour, and William Johnstone, and western movies especially those starring John Wayne.  Darrell  was an also a huge sports fan.  He loved anything sports.  His all-time favorite was attending sporting events of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Darrell leaves behind beautiful memories and will be missed by so many.

He is preceded in death by his wife Patricia; parents Eugene & Adelia Hansen; grandson Nicholas Rynders.

Darrell is survived by his children Coleen Hansen, Cynthia Smith (Gary),Mark Hansen (Diane); grandchildren Angela (Todd), Nathaniel, Dillon (Lisa), William (Sara), Grant, Brandon and Ryan; great-grandchildren Gage (Chloe), Grace, Aubrey, Kaydance, Nickolas, Ezra and Scarlett.

Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.

Visitation:  Monday, January 30 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service 7:00 p.m. both at Bellevue Memorial Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, January 31 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bellevue.

    Was a close neighbor when they lived on Park Drive. Being retired Military, we had alot in common. I will always remember how much Darrell loved and took care of his wife, Pat. Your reward is upon you….Sincerely
