Syslo, Benedict F. Lt Col USAF (Ret.) Feb 2, 1917 – Dec 12, 2013 Preceded in death by parents, Joseph L. and Sophia (Torczon) Syslo; brothers, Dominic, Theophil, Leonard, Joseph J, Anthony and Michael; sisters, Cecilia Rosenthal, Ann Syslo, Dorothy Pfeifer, and Clara Kosiba. Survived by sons, Phillip (Nancy), Gregory (Betty), Timothy; daughters, Rosemary Schrack, Theresa (Ron) Lamb, Patricia (Dan) Smith; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 16 nephews; 8 nieces and a host of relatives. He was a veteran of 28 years in the US Army and the US Air Force, and participated in 66 bombing missions over Europe during WWII. After retiring from the military he earned a Masters Degree in Secondary Education. He taught American Government and Our Judicial Process at Bellevue East High School. At 65 he retired from teaching to pursue his lifelong hobbies of hunting, fishing, and traveling. He visited all 7 continents and 139 countries. At 85 he was forced to give up his hobbies due to an uncooperating heart and moved to Richmont Village Retirement Center. He was a member of the Century Travel Club and a 60 year member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree. He was a loving and gifted man that was dedicated to his faith and family. VISITATION: Monday, December 16, 5-7pm with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm at Bellevue Memorial Chapel, Bellevue. FUNERAL MASS: Tuesday, December 17, 10:30am at St. Mary Catholic Church, Bellevue. Military Honors by Offutt AFB Honor Guard. Interment: St. John Cemetery, Bellevue. Memorials to Archdiocese Seminarian Fund.
