Age 90

Audrey Josephine Swoboda Reding, age 90, of Bellevue, died on March 11, 2019. She was born in Leigh, NE, on March 29, 1928, to Joseph and Louise Nagengast Swoboda. She was raised in Clarkson, NE, and was a proud member of the Clarkson High School Class of 1946. After graduation, she moved to Omaha where she worked for Northwestern Bell for several years. In 1949 she met a young airman, John James Reding, at a dance, and they married on May 13, 1950. She moved many times in the next 30 years as her husband’s military career took her growing family around the world. She enjoyed learning about the history, food and customs of the locations where they were stationed, and she made many wonderful friends. She and John retired to Bellevue, where he died in 1986. Audrey enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and her volunteer work, especially with the Bellevue Library, where she coordinated many successful used book sales. She was an active parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Lloyd Swoboda. She is survived by her children: Shawn King and husband Bill of Houston, Joli Munch and husband Mike of Bellevue, James Reding and wife Vickie of Winter Garden, FL, Laure Husmann and husband Dann of Lincoln, Tom Reding and wife Dee Dee of Papillion, Dan Reding and wife Jennifer of Bellevue, and Mary Reding of Bellevue. She was a devoted grandmother to thirteen: Megan King Jordan, Joe Munch, John Reding, Katy Munch Britton, Anne King Cantu, Steve Munch, Peter Reding, Toni Reding Kerr, Liz Husmann, Chris Reding, Mark Husmann, Sami Reding, and Nick Reding. She is also survived by fifteen great-grandchildren, her brother Glenn Swoboda and wife Jan, as well as sister-in-law Theresa Dubsky Swoboda, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Audrey would say that she lived a long and good life and was ready to join her beloved John in heaven. We, her family, thank God for the blessing she was in our lives.

    Dear Mary,
I met you when we were both new to Bellevue Public Schools out at Lemay. I remember how much I enjoyed listening to you read aloud to your 6th graders. I thought , now there is a woman who loves books .What a gift you have. Your loving witness as a daughter and “care-giver” is the best testimony to the beautiful life and loving heart of your mother. I send you my sympathy on you loss and prayers for the gentle peace that faith in Christ provides. I hope our mothers meet in heaven in the garden.
