Angus M. Bell

Angus M. Bell

April 26, 1948 – July 25, 2021

He was a passionate bagpiper and proud Papa.

It is impossible to put into words just what made Angus the one-of-a-kind gentleman we all love so much. Perhaps it was his refusal to turn his back on anyone who needed him, spending his whole life rooting for the little guy. Perhaps it was the entertainment of watching the wit, sarcasm and laughter shared with his best friend and wife, affectionately known as his “cellmate”. Perhaps it was the easy way he made conversation with anyone … just ask the lady at the checkout of any store who was told that he was from Scotland and “the wife” was from Ireland. Perhaps it was the pure joy he took in the simple things in life, “pottering” around in his garden, fixing whatever needed mending or watching an entire subtitled season of some foreign drama on Netflix in one sitting (and then forgetting the name). Or maybe it was the quiet pride he had for his kids and all they had accomplished or the way he beamed when he spent time with his grandkids. Perhaps it was his smile or his kindness or his infectious laugh. Whatever it was that made Angus so special to so many people will be sorely missed and the world was a much better place for the time he was here. We will miss him forever.

We are so sorry for your loss, Bell family. Sean, I will always have fond memories of traveling with you, Andrew, and your dad to festivals to see your dad’s piping performances. The love, compassion, dedication, and strength that your family showed over the last year+ to support your dad as he battled is an amazing testament to the family he helped raise. There is perhaps no better legacy a person can leave in this world than a family as close and connected as yours.

Although I didn’t know Angus long, sometimes in life you just meet people that will forever leave a lasting impact. Angus was one of those people. I’m incredibly blessed to have met Angus, Aileen, and the rest of their family. I will be forever grateful that this world brought us together.

The Scottish Society of Nebraska Foundation offers sincere condolences. He was well known and respected among the local Scots. God’s speed, my friend.
