ALLAN D. WILSEY “DOC”

Wilsey, Allan D.  “Doc”

 December 23, 1957 ~ May 11, 2018

Age 60 yrs.

Loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend to many.

Allan passed away on May 11, 2018 after a lengthy battle with colon cancer.  Dr. Wilsey was preceded in death by his parents Clarence & Phyllis Wilsey, a sister Joy Smith and both sets of grandparents.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Janice, his sons Dr. Justin (Caitlin) Wilsey, step daughters Kylee and Aubrey of Gretna, and son Andrew Wilsey of Papillion, a brother, Phil (Kim) Wilsey of Grand Island as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins & in laws.

Allan was born in Oxford, Nebraska and grew up there before graduating as class president and valedictorian of his class in 1976.  He had many interests and played many sports over the years and always knew he wanted to become a family doctor.  He received his Bachelor’s degree from UNL in 1980 and went on to obtain his medical degree from UNMC in 1984, completing his family practice residency in 1987. He married the love of his life, Janice McKenzie, in 1984.

Dr. Wilsey started a solo practice in both Weeping Water and Louisville, NE in 1987.  During that time, he moved from Omaha to Springfield to be nearer to Midlands Hospital and his clinics.  During his career, he served on many committees such as UNMC’s Admissions Committee, Medical Staff President of Midlands Hospital, Medical staff committee, Executive Committee, Credentials Committee, Medical Director of Weeping Water Rescue, and Medical Staff Physician for Cass County Jail, Louisville Care Center and Good Samaritan Nursing home in Omaha.  He was a preceptor for dozens of incoming medical students from UNMC.

Dr. Wilsey enjoyed teaching medicine but for fun would take interested students out to teach them gun safety and target shooting. He was a lifelong Husker football fan and could be found every weekend in the fall tailgating with friends.  He also enjoyed golf in his spare time and for a time taught himself how to make stained glass lamps.  It didn’t matter what he did, who he met or where they were–they were friends and he made them all feel that way. He was just “Doc”.

After 21 years practice, he joined Alegent Health Clinic in 2008 and practiced until his illness made it impossible for him to continue.

VISITATION:  Monday, May 14, 5-7 pm at Bellevue Memorial Chapel.

FUNERAL SERVICE:  Tuesday, May 15 at 11 am, also at the Funeral Home.

Donations to the American Cancer Society.

Dr. Wilsey was my doctor for many years while I lived in Bellevue NE. He was one of the best doctor’s that I had ever had…very warm and always encouraging me to be positive during some difficult health issues I had. My heart goes out to his family and other loved ones. God bless.

Loved this guy, he was my 3rd Year Family Medicine preceptor, mentor and friend. He taught me alot about medicine and life.. Husker football won’t be the same for me without him. I feel blessed for having the opportunity to learn from him and getting to know him.

Doc was the very best Doctor for me and my Mom. He looked after her as if she was his Mom. I loved him for it. He always listened to my own diagnosis. Always knew I would see him in his Husker Red on Fridays when I went in to the office. I’ve missed him and wish I had known when he passed away. Mrs. Wilsey, thank you for sharing him with us all those years.
