Marguerite R. McQuade

Margaret Rita (Keber) McQuade of Bellevue NE, loving wife mother and grandmother, died peacefully at home on May 26, 2023.

“Marguerite” was born on October 30th, 1926 along with her twin brother Mark, the eighth of nine children to Clemens N. and Anna J. (Glaser) Keber on a farm west of Spalding, Nebraska

Upon graduation from Spalding Academy in 1944, she taught for three years in a one-room ‘normal’ school to earn funds to attend nurses training.  She graduated from Creighton Memorial St. Joseph Hospital nursing program in 1950 and worked in a variety of nursing positions throughout her career including hospital inpatient facilities in Omaha and Lincoln, a busy obstetrician’s office and as an American Red Cross Blood Mobile nurse traveling throughout fifty counties in Nebraska and Western Iowa.  After starting her family, she transitioned to school nursing where she retired from the Papillion-LaVista School District in 1988.

Marguerite married Edward (Ed) McQuade on October 29th, 1960 at St Peter’s Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska and together they had five children; Lt Col (ret) Timothy (Kathleen) McQuade of Alexandria, Virginia; Lt Col Ann (Charles) Ariz of Bellingham, Washington; Joseph (Connie) McQuade of Chandler, Arizona; Patrick (Denise) McQuade of Richland, Washington; and Kathleen (Leigh) Auden of Plano, Texas.  In addition to her children and their spouses, she is survived by seven grandchildren, Meghan, Natalie, and Ryan McQuade, John and Sean Auden, and Lauren and Caroline Ariz, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Marguerite and Ed briefly lived in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska and Lyons, Kansas before settling in Bellevue, Nebraska where they raised their family.  She traveled from coast to coast with Ed and her children, camping and sightseeing in National Parks and US cities.  Later she and Ed traveled internationally visiting the far-flung places her children’s work and lives took them, visiting South Korea and many European countries.

She was active in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Ladies Guild in Bellevue, Nebraska, and a member of the Catholic Nurses Association.  She enjoyed gardening and spending time with family.

Marguerite was preceded in death by parents Anna and Clemens, brothers Herman, Victor, Lawrence, Raymond and Mark and sisters Monica, Kathleen and Mildred.

Charlie and I went to dinner with Ed ♥ and Marguerite ♥ many times, generally at Lum’s Restaurant or the Greek Islands. The Lord helped Ed find Marguerite. Ed is so blessed to meet Marguerite, and Marguerite was so blessed to meet Ed. Ed, you and your family are in my prayers. Ed, bless you and your family.

Marguerite and Ed were wonderful neighbors for years here in the Nob Hill area of Bellevue. So sorry Ed/family to hear of her passing. Grant her eternal peace!!
