Gregory H. Sovey

Gregory H. Sovey was born 7/10/1945 in Omaha, NE. He passed away 5/12/2017 at the age of 71. He is survived by his daughter Shannon Sovey, former wife Marjorie Sovey and siblings Robert, Christopher and Rene. His sister Cathy preceded him in death.

Mr. Sovey’s active duty in the United States Army was from 7/01/63 until 7/01/66. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and received an Honorable Discharge. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He also spent time in the Dominican Republic

Mr. Sovey began his 41-year railroad career in 1966 as a stenographer clerk for Southern Pacific in Milwaukee, WI. He married Marjorie in 1968 and they were married for 27 years. Southern Pacific transferred him several times throughout his career. IN addition to Milwaukee, Mr. Sovey worked in Cleveland, OH; Boston, MA; New York, NY; Stanford, CT; Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco, CA; and Denver CO. Mr. Sovey’s final move was to Omaha, NE in 1998 to work for Union Pacific. His title was Senior Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Sales. He retired in 2006.

Mr. Sovey had a long and distinguished career that was characterized by hard work and total dedication to Southern Pacific and Union Pacific. He as intelligent, professional, polished, articulate and witty. He loved history, golf, football and music. He also appreciated beautiful well-designed clothes, homes, furnishings and landscaping.

    Sending condolences to the family & friends of Greg. My children got the pleasure of becoming close with Greg he always encouraged them to do their best in school & sports . My son loved hearing his stories and hanging with the guys after his basketball games. He will be missed by us all.
